Wisdom Gomashie Appointed Co-Chair of NPP Environmental Committee

A mining consultant and Fellow of the African Policy Lens (APL), Ing Wisdom Edem Gomashie has been appointed Co-Chair of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Sector Committee on Environment and Natural Resources.

The appointment, announced in an official statement by the NPP, forms part of a broader restructuring of the party’s standing and sector committees aimed at strengthening policy formulation and drawing on technical expertise from across the country ahead of the 2028 general elections.

His appointment also forms part of a wider reconstitution of the party’s committees spearheaded by the NPP’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is bringing together former presidential primary contenders and experienced technocrats to help shape the party’s future policy direction.

Ing Gomashie, a former executive of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) and native of Jasikan in the Oti Region, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s emerging voices in mining policy and natural resource governance.

The Environment and Natural Resources Committee is expected to play a central role in developing policy proposals on mining, land administration, environmental protection, climate resilience, forestry, and sustainable natural resource management.

A respected engineer and alumnus of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Ing Gomashie is expected to bring his technical expertise and industry experience to the committee at a time when issues surrounding illegal mining, environmental degradation, and natural resource management remain key national concerns.

Political observers say the inclusion of professionals with strong technical backgrounds reflects the NPP’s attempt to reposition itself as a policy-driven party focused on practical solutions to Ghana’s development challenges.

The committee is also expected to engage stakeholders across the mining, environmental, and land management sectors as part of efforts to develop proposals addressing growing public concerns over galamsey, deforestation, water pollution, and the sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

Party insiders believe the appointments signal a renewed effort to consolidate unity while leveraging expertise from various sectors to prepare the NPP’s policy blueprint for future elections.

Ing Gomashie’s appointment has already attracted congratulatory messages from party supporters and industry players, many of whom have expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to policy discussions in the environment and natural resources space.

He also works as a mining consultant and Fellow of the African Policy Lens, where his advocacy focuses on promoting a sustainable and responsible mining sector across Africa.
