Police Inspector Busted; Leaves Phone Behind After MoMo Robbery

A Police Inspector identified as Bright Appiah Danquah, reportedly stationed at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region, has been arrested for allegedly robbing more than eight mobile money (MoMo) vendors in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

According to reports, the suspect carried out a series of armed robberies targeting MoMo vendors, with the latest victim identified as Victoria Arkoh.

Narrating her ordeal to Crime Check, Ms. Arkoh alleged that the inspector robbed her at gunpoint and made away with GH¢38,600.

She said the incident left her traumatised to the extent that she urinated on herself during the robbery, soaking her one-year-old baby in the process.

In a twist of events, Inspector Bright reportedly forgot his mobile phone on the victim’s counter after one of the robbery operations.

He subsequently proceeded to the Adiebeba Police Station to lodge a complaint that his phone had been stolen and requested police assistance to track the device.

However, the victim also arrived at the station to report the robbery incident, leading to the suspect’s exposure.

Ms. Arkoh further disclosed that when she reported the case at the Kumasi Central Police Station, she was informed that more than eight MoMo vendors had lodged similar complaints against the inspector.

Inspector Bright, together with his alleged accomplices — another police officer and two civilians — has since been remanded into custody pending further investigations.

Police Inspector Interdicted Over Defilement:

In a separate development, the Ghana Police Service has interdicted another Police Inspector stationed at Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region over allegations of defilement and incest involving his 14-year-old daughter.

The officer, identified as Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, is currently under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Agona District.

A statement issued by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command on May 9, 2026, said the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua in the Eastern Region on behalf of her daughter.

According to the statement, the complainant alleged that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father.

Police said the victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to support investigations into the matter.

The statement further indicated that the suspect reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office on February 20, 2026, where he was arrested and cautioned.

“Suspect denied the allegations and was later released on enquiry bail to be reporting periodically,” portions of the statement said.

The Police Administration noted that the officer has been interdicted to pave way for further investigations, adding that the Ashanti North Regional Police Command remains committed to conducting thorough investigations into the case.
