Regional Minister Donates Tricycles to Ho Teaching Hospital For Patient Shuttle Service
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has donated two passenger tricycles to the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) to support the establishment of an internal patient shuttle service aimed at improving mobility and patient experience at the facility.
The donation follows an appeal by the Governing Board of the Hospital during a recent engagement with the Regional Minister, where the Board highlighted the need for a dedicated internal transport system to facilitate the movement of patients across the hospital’s extensive campus.
The two tricycles are part of five units pledged by Mr Gunu and will form part of the hospital’s planned Patient Transport System.
The shuttle service is expected to particularly benefit elderly patients, post-operative patients, persons with mobility challenges and others who may have difficulty walking long distances between departments, clinics, diagnostic units, pharmacies and other service points.
According to the hospital, the initiative will reduce the physical strain associated with navigating the facility, while providing a safer and more convenient means of transportation for patients recovering from illness or medical procedures.
The service is also expected to improve patient flow, reduce delays in accessing care, minimise missed or delayed appointments and enhance the overall efficiency of service delivery.
Additionally, the initiative could reduce the burden on nursing and clinical staff who are sometimes required to escort patients between service points, allowing them to devote more time to direct patient care and other critical clinical duties.
The management and Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister for responding positively to their appeal and supporting the development of the facility.
The Board Chairman said the intervention went beyond the provision of transportation, describing it as a practical investment in patient dignity, comfort, safety and service excellence.
He said the initiative also reinforced the shared responsibility of stakeholders to help create a healthcare environment that responds effectively to the needs of patients.
The Chief Executive Officer of the hospital said the gesture was consistent with the facility’s commitment to improving patient experience and called for similar support from development partners, corporate organisations, philanthropists and other stakeholders to further enhance healthcare delivery.
