Citi FM, Channel One TV Reward Mothers in Special Promo

In a moving tribute to the unsung heroines of the Ghanaian household, Citi FM and Channel One TV have officially announced the top three winners of its “An Episode with Mama” promotion.
The Mother’s Day initiative, which sought to highlight the profound impact of maternal resilience, culminated in a heartfelt ceremony honoring mothers who defied poverty, grief, and social ridicule to secure the futures of their children.
The announcement was made on Citi FM on Friday, May 8, by the Head of TV Production at Channel One TV, Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey.
She explained that the entries selected stood out for the depth of sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering commitment demonstrated by the mothers featured in the submitted stories.
The campaign invited listeners and viewers to share personal and emotional stories about their mothers and the impact they have had on their lives.
As part of the initiative, all 10 shortlisted participants were hosted at Channel One TV, where they received packages from sponsors GTP and Tekura, including branded gifts and weekend getaway experiences at the African Regent Hotel.

Selected winning entries:
Kathryn Ewool – Edith Ewool
Kathryn described her mother as a woman of “calm strength and quiet compassion,” who chose forgiveness even in pain.
“My mum is the definition of calm strength and quiet compassion. She gives so freely of herself and somehow leaves light wherever she goes… From family to friends, her children to strangers, she meets everyone with grace. Her constant words are, ‘for the sake of peace.’”
She also recounted her mother’s sacrifices after leaving a corporate job to raise five children alone through multiple menial jobs, including baking, petty trading, teaching, and selling a range of household items to support the family.
“My mom left her lucrative job in the corporate world just to see to the welfare of her children… She did all sorts of menial jobs to pay rent, school fees and our well-being.”
Kathryn added that her mother’s life has taught her resilience, humility, prayerfulness, and the importance of learning skills for survival.

Mrs Marian Kutsienyo – Mrs Agnes Kwegyir
Mrs Kutsienyo shared how her mother raised five children after the death of their father while working as a midwife.
“I remember how I lost my dad at a tender age of twelve (12 years)… Mum had to use her meagre salary to take care of all five (5) of us at the time.”
She recalled how her mother arranged with schools to pay fees in installments to ensure the children remained in school.
“One of my fondest memories… is how mum had to arrange with the school authorities… for her to be able to pay our school fees in installments… so that we would not be sent home.”
Kwabena Owusu-Yeboah – Madam Florence Safoah
Kwabena recounted how his education was nearly disrupted after his father’s business was demolished, forcing him to pause schooling.
He said his mother insisted all her children must complete at least secondary education, despite financial hardship.
“I thought she had come to pay my fees. Instead, she walked into the accounts office, went on her knees, and broke down in tears… By grace, I was allowed to sit my exams, and I eventually graduated.”
He described his mother as the embodiment of sacrifice, crediting her for his academic journey.
Celebrating motherhood
The initiative, supported by GTP and Tekura, formed part of Channel One TV and Citi FM’s Mother’s Day celebrations, designed to spotlight the often-unseen sacrifices of mothers.
Organisers said the campaign revealed powerful stories of endurance, including mothers who sold goods to support education, endured hardship to keep families together, and made life-defining sacrifices for their children.
According to Citi FM & Channel One TV, “An Episode with Mama” promotion is more than a competition—it is a tribute to motherhood itself, capturing moments of love, resilience, and sacrifice that shape generations.
