Mining consultant and accomplished engineer, Wisdom Edem Gomashie, has been elected unopposed as the First Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Buem Constituency of the Oti Region.

Mr. Gomashie’s victory was confirmed after his only challenger withdrew from the race at the eleventh hour, paving the way for the young politician to assume one of the party’s key leadership positions in the constituency.

Widely regarded as a vibrant and results-oriented political activist, Mr. Gomashie began his political journey at the tertiary level, where he rose to become one of the leading executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), the student wing of the NPP, at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).

A vibrant young politician with extensive experience in grassroots party organisation, he previously served as a deputy constituency executive in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region.

His election is expected to inject renewed energy, strategic leadership and organisational strength into the Buem Constituency branch of the party.

Mr. Gomashie was elected during the NPP’s constituency executive elections held last Saturday at the Assembly Hall of Bueman Senior High School (BUSEC) in Jasikan, where 840 delegates voted to elect new leaders to lead the party for the next four years.

A total of 28 aspirants contested 11 executive positions in what party officials described as a peaceful, transparent and well-organised exercise.

In the chairmanship race, Arnold Agbley emerged victorious with 506 votes, while William Kwasi Agyei won the Constituency Secretary position with 525 votes, defeating his main challenger, Aikins, who secured 290 votes.

The keenly contested Second Vice-Chairmanship race was won by Mark Donkor, who polled 280 votes to defeat Thomas Addey (197), Frank Otimpong (118), Douglas (79), Majidu (60) and Boatri (59).

Other executives elected include Fiazuku Joseph as Deputy Secretary, Patrick Dzidzornu as Treasurer, Jonas Kwasi Dahor as Constituency Organiser, Marthias Bassayi Komla Adebayor as Communications Officer, and Adolph Kwabena as Youth Organiser.

The election attracted keen interest among party members, with six candidates contesting the Second Vice-Chairmanship, four vying for the Organiser position, while several other portfolios were also keenly contested.

The peaceful conduct of the election, coupled with the overwhelming participation of delegates from the constituency’s electoral areas and party structures, has been hailed as a strong demonstration of the NPP’s internal democratic credentials and readiness to strengthen its grassroots machinery ahead of the 2028 general elections.
