DVLA Cuts Sod for Number Plate Manufacturing Centre Today

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will today, Friday, August 28, 2026, hold a sod-cutting ceremony to officially commence the construction of its own number plate manufacturing centre.
The project is expected to significantly transform the production and distribution of vehicle number plates in the country and enable the Authority to produce them directly in accordance with its own standards and specifications.
The initiative is also expected to help the Authority respond more efficiently to the growing demand for vehicle number plates and ensure that customers receive them within stipulated timelines.
The sod-cutting ceremony, scheduled for 11:00 a.m., will take place at the DVLA’s New Regional Office at Narhman, on the Haatso Road.
The event is expected to attract major stakeholders in the transport sector, including officials of the DVLA, representatives of transport operators, vehicle owners and other relevant industry players.
Game-Changer
The establishment of the manufacturing centre forms part of efforts by the DVLA to strengthen its operational capacity and improve service delivery to motorists and other customers.
By taking direct control of the manufacturing process, the Authority is expected to have greater oversight over the quality, specifications and security features of number plates issued to vehicle owners.
The project could also help address delays associated with the production and supply of number plates, particularly as the number of vehicles registered in the country continues to increase.
The move is viewed, as a major step towards improving efficiency, strengthening the integrity of the vehicle registration system and ensuring that motorists receive their number plates within the required timeframe.
The sod-cutting ceremony will formally mark the beginning of construction and is expected to provide stakeholders with further details on the scope, objectives and expected impact of the facility on the country’s vehicle registration and licensing system.
