We’ll Burn Down NDC Headquarters If — NPP Communicator

A member of the National Communications Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, has threatened that the party would burn down the headquarters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) if any NPP member is arrested again.

“If the NDC arrests any NPP member again, we will burn down their party headquarters,” he reportedly stated.

It remains unclear what triggered the comment, but the threat comes barely a day after the NPP’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, warned that the party could make the country “extremely ungovernable” if what he described as continued harassment and intimidation of its members does not stop.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, May 19, during a courtesy call by the NPP on the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps to raise concerns over developments in the country, Salam Mustapha said the party would not remain silent while its members were allegedly being targeted.

According to him, the NPP remains a formidable political force with millions of supporters nationwide and is prepared to mobilise its base in response to what he termed political persecution.

“If this nonsense doesn’t stop, we will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them. We are sending this warning and caution to the government to release Abronye; otherwise, should anything happen to Abronye in custody, you’ll have us to contend with,” he said.

He further warned that the party would not hesitate to escalate its response if the situation persists, insisting that continued pressure on its members could trigger stronger action from the opposition.

“And this constant harassment and intimidation of NPP people — if you don’t stop it, we’ll react in a way you will not be happy with,” he stated.

Salam Mustapha maintained that while the NPP is willing to offer constructive criticism and support to the government, it would resist any attempt to suppress or intimidate its members.

“You have a country to govern, and we are here to support you and give you the best advice from the opposition point of view. If you turn us into enemies, we will give you rebellion,” he added.

The comments come in the wake of the remand of the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who was remanded for two weeks on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, over alleged offensive conduct likely to breach the peace and the publication of false statements against a judge.
