Ghana Free Zones Authority Wraps Up Heritage Month with Vibrant Display

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has climaxed its 2026 Heritage Month celebrations with a vibrant display of culture, unity, and national pride.

Held on March 27 under the theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope – Celebrating Our Heritage the Free Zones Way,” the event highlighted the Authority’s commitment to promoting economic growth while preserving Ghanaian values and identity.

Addressing participants at the opening session, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Lateef Apau Wiredu, described the occasion as more than a ceremonial event.

He said it provided an opportunity for reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to national development.

He noted that the Authority’s work continues to yield tangible results, including thriving industries, increased exports, and expanded opportunities for Ghanaians.

In her address, the Chief Executive Officer of GFZA, Mary Awusi, underscored that the theme aligns with the core mandate of the Authority. She explained that beyond facilitating trade and investment, GFZA plays a critical role in shaping Ghana’s economic future.

According to her, the Free Zones Programme has over the years attracted significant investments, boosted exports, and created thousands of jobs.

She added that enterprises under the programme currently export a wide range of products, including garments, processed foods, and pharmaceuticals, to markets across Africa and beyond.

Mrs. Awusi further stressed the importance of restoring hope, particularly for young people, entrepreneurs, and communities that depend on industrial growth, noting that the Authority’s work goes beyond economic gains to building confidence in the country’s future.

In the closing session, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration, Musah Sibiri Hamidu, highlighted the role of strong systems, accountability, and teamwork in sustaining growth.

He called for continued unity, emphasizing that Ghana’s strength lies in its people and cultural heritage.

The celebration featured colourful and educative performances by staff and national service personnel representing various regions of the country, offering a platform for cultural learning and appreciation.

The event reaffirmed GFZA’s commitment to driving prosperity and restoring hope through the promotion of Ghanaian innovation and global competitiveness.
