GMTF Deepens Partnership with Media to Save Lives

…Courts GBC, Media General, Multimedia to Drive Awareness

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has intensified efforts to raise public awareness of specialised healthcare services and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through strategic engagements with leading media organisations, including Media General, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), and the Multimedia Group, following a similar engagement with the Despite Media Group.

The engagements form part of a strategic media outreach initiative led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, aimed at forging partnerships to educate the public on specialised healthcare support and enhance awareness of NCDs across the country.

During a courtesy call on Media General, Mrs. Darko-Opoku and her team held discussions with the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Beatrice Agyeman, on opportunities for collaboration in public health education and advocacy.

Mrs. Darko-Opoku underscored the vital role of the media in shaping public opinion and influencing national discourse.

She noted that Media General’s extensive television, radio, and digital platforms position it as a key partner in promoting healthcare awareness and informing Ghanaians about support services available through the Trust Fund.

According to her, increasing public understanding of specialised healthcare interventions and available support mechanisms is critical to improving health outcomes and expanding access to quality medical care.

She further stressed that partnerships with major media institutions are essential to ensuring that information about specialised healthcare services reaches communities nationwide and encourages greater public participation in the Trust Fund’s mission.

The GMTF also commended Media General for its longstanding contribution to national development through public education and advocacy on issues of public interest.

Engagement with GBC

In a separate engagement, the Trust Fund met with the Director-General of the GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan, and his management team to discuss a strategic partnership focused on healthcare education and awareness creation.

The meeting highlighted GBC’s nationwide reach through its six television channels, 17 FM radio stations, and programming in 27 Ghanaian languages, making it a critical partner in disseminating life-saving health information to communities across the country.

Professor Alhassan pledged GBC’s support for the Trust Fund’s efforts, assuring the delegation of the broadcaster’s commitment to helping bring specialised healthcare information closer to Ghanaians.

He noted that increased public awareness is essential in tackling the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases and promoting understanding of the support available through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

Officials at the meeting observed that GBC has remained a trusted source of information for generations, playing a pivotal role in educating, informing, and connecting citizens while reflecting Ghana’s rich cultural diversity.

Multimedia Group Visit

At the Multimedia Group, the team paid a courtesy call on the Chief Operating Officer, Ken Ansah, and senior management to discuss ways of deepening their strategic partnership.

The engagement follows months of support from the Multimedia Group, which has provided its platforms to amplify conversations about the Trust Fund’s work and its impact on vulnerable Ghanaians.

During the visit, officials of the Trust Fund expressed appreciation to the Multimedia Group for its commitment to promoting public awareness of the initiative and helping connect people in need with available support.

The Fund noted that media partnerships remain critical in reaching communities across the country, educating the public about available healthcare assistance, and ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind due to lack of information.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund said it looks forward to building on the existing relationship with the Multimedia Group as both institutions work together to expand awareness and bring hope to individuals and families seeking medical support.

According to the Fund, timely access to information can often be the difference between suffering in silence and receiving needed help, making strategic media collaboration an essential component of its outreach efforts.

The Trust Fund believes that strong collaboration with national institutions such as GBC, Media General, Multimedia Group, Despite Media, and others will be instrumental in expanding access to specialised healthcare services and ensuring that no community is left behind.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the partnerships will drive impactful public conversations on health, improve awareness of non-communicable diseases, and ultimately contribute to saving lives across the country.
