Volta Welcomes Mahama on ‘Resetting Ghana’ Tour Today

The chiefs and people of the Volta Region, led by Regional Minister James Gunu and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, are set to welcome President John Dramani Mahama today as he begins a two-day working tour to inspect the progress of key development projects across the region.

The visit, under the government’s Resetting Ghana initiative, will see the President inspect major infrastructure projects, launch new development initiatives, engage with citizens, and promote the government’s flagship programmes.

Scheduled for Thursday, July 16, and Friday, July 17, the tour will take President Mahama to several districts, where he is expected to assess ongoing projects and commission completed facilities aimed at improving the lives of residents.

Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the visit, Mr. Gunu, who hosted members of the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to a breakfast meeting at the Residency, said the tour will begin at Juapong, where President Mahama will perform the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market.

The project is one of the government’s flagship initiatives designed to stimulate local commerce, create jobs, and drive economic growth.

The President will then proceed to the Peki College of Education to inspect a newly constructed 1,500-seat multipurpose assembly hall before touring ongoing road projects, including the Asikuma–Anyirawase Road and the UHAS Bypass–Anyirawase–Ho Road.

In Ho, President Mahama will inspect the multipurpose laboratory project at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Sokode Campus.

He will also participate in a durbar on the Free Primary Health Care Programme at the Ho Municipal Hospital, where he is expected to interact with healthcare professionals, beneficiaries, and members of the public.

On the second day of the tour, the President will inspect the Ho Sports Stadium before holding a Resetting Ghana Citizens’ Engagement at Ho Technical University.

The forum is expected to provide residents with an opportunity to interact directly with the President on government policies, development programmes, and issues affecting the region.

President Mahama will later inaugurate the new Akatsi North District Police Headquarters at Ave-Dakpa to strengthen security infrastructure and improve policing in the district.

The tour will conclude with an inspection of the ongoing Ho–Denu Road project, a major transport corridor expected to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, and improve transportation within the Volta Region.

The two-day visit forms part of President Mahama’s nationwide Resetting Ghana tour, which seeks to assess the progress of development projects, engage citizens, and reaffirm the government’s commitment to delivering on its development agenda.
