Lands Minister Launches Journalists Against Galamsey Today

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, is set to launch a new media-led watchdog group today aimed at intensifying the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The initiative, dubbed Patriotic Journalists Against Galamsey (PAJAG), seeks to mobilise media professionals across the country to support efforts to combat illegal mining through responsible reporting, investigative journalism and sustained public advocacy.

PAJAG is being spearheaded by Nana Otu Darko, who serves as Executive Director.

The launch event, scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2026, will take place at the Mikaddo Conference Centre at 10:00 a.m.

Organisers say the platform will serve as a coalition of journalists committed to promoting ethical, high-impact reporting on illegal mining activities while supporting national efforts to protect Ghana’s environment and natural resources.

The programme is expected to bring together journalists, media stakeholders, environmental advocates and government officials to reaffirm the media’s role in the fight against galamsey.
