Helicopter Crash Kills Two at Tema

Two persons have died after a helicopter crashed at Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community One on Monday, March 16, causing panic among residents and students in the area.
The aircraft, identified as a microlight with registration number 9G-ADV, reportedly plunged from the sky and burst into flames upon impact, leaving the two occupants on board dead.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service quickly responded to the emergency and managed to extinguish the blaze at the crash site. Officers from the Ghana Police Service also assisted in securing the area and retrieving the charred bodies of the victims.

Mr Ahmed Abdullia, Assemblyman for the Kwesi Plange Electoral Area, said no students were injured in the incident despite the crash occurring within the premises of the school park.
“It was a frightening situation, but fortunately none of the students was hurt,” he said.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the incident in a statement, indicating that the aircraft was flying from Ho in the Volta Region to Accra at the time of the crash.

According to the Authority, the aircraft was expected to arrive in Accra at about 3:20 p.m. local time. However, air traffic controllers reportedly lost radio contact with the pilot at about 2:18 p.m., just over an hour before its scheduled landing.
Both occupants on board the aircraft died in the resulting fire, the statement said.

Meanwhile, safety inspectors from the GCAA have cordoned off the crash site in Tema and have begun investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
The Authority noted that further details would be provided as investigations progress.
