Doctors at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, have successfully removed a motorbike key that became lodged in the skull of a 29-year-old farmer after he attempted to separate two fighting youths in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region.
The victim, Moro Razak, from Awoma, a farming community in the municipality, sustained the life-threatening injury at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at Amenyo, another farming community in the area.
According to reports, the altercation involved two youths from Bodada who had travelled to Amenyo to play (tsatsa), a local gambling game.
During the confrontation, Razak stepped in to restore calm but was allegedly stabbed with a motorbike key, which became embedded in his skull.
He was initially rushed to the Jasikan Municipal Hospital for emergency treatment but was later referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra due to the severity of his injuries.
Providing an update on Monday, Moro Alhassan, an uncle of the victim who has been caring for him at the hospital, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that surgeons successfully removed the motorbike key during a delicate operation on Sunday, July 26.
“The operation was successful, and Razak is recovering well by the grace of Allah,” Mr. Alhassan said.
He commended the medical team at the 37 Military Hospital for their professionalism and dedication in saving the young farmer’s life.
Mr. Alhassan also expressed gratitude to relatives, friends and members of the public who offered prayers and other support following the incident.
He appealed for continued prayers for Razak’s full recovery as he remains under medical observation.
The incident has left residents of Awoma, Amenyo and neighbouring communities in shock, with many describing it as a tragic consequence of a dispute that escalated into violence.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
