Volta MPs To Report ‘Lazy’ Contractors To Roads Minister
…As Regional Minister Cautions Quality Work and Adherence To Timelines

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Volta Region, under the Volta Parliamentary Caucus, have resolved to report two road contractors for poor performance and delays on key projects to the Minister for Roads and Highways for immediate action.
The contractors, Greenhouse International Developers Ghana Limited and China Railway Group were cited for underperformance during an inspection tour of major government projects across the region.
One of the contractors was reportedly absent from site without any tangible explanation.
The decision was taken following the tour conducted on Monday, February 2, led by Chairman of the Volta Parliamentary Caucus and MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, and the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu.
The exercise was aimed at assessing the progress of ongoing government projects to ensure they are advancing as reported and on schedule.
Greenhouse International Developers Ghana Limited is responsible for the Have–Hohoe Road (53.3km), a section of the Eastern Corridor Road, while China Railway Group is handling the Airport Second Gate–Kpetoe Road (Km 7.7–Km 27.6) under the government’s flagship ‘Big Push’ initiative.
Both projects were found to be lagging behind expected standards.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Mr. Bedzrah said the Caucus was dissatisfied with the state of work on some projects and would formally bring the matter to the attention of the Roads and Highways Minister.
The Regional Minister, also supported the Caucus chairman to report the two underperforming contractors to the Roads Minister for action.
“We are here to see for ourselves whether construction is actually taking place and whether contractors are meeting their obligations,” he stated.
The Ho West MP, however, commended other contractors, including Timeline, First Sky, and Rolider, for demonstrating commitment and making satisfactory progress on their respective projects.
Following an engagement at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), the delegation inspected several road projects under the ‘Big Push’ and Eastern Corridor Road initiatives, covering Hohoe, Asikuma, Anyrawasi, Ho, and extending to the Ketu South District.
The MPs closely examined both the quality and pace of work along these corridors.
At the Golokwati Lorry Station in the Afadjato South District, the MPs interacted with residents and commuters, apologizing for the inconvenience caused by ongoing construction and urging the public to remain patient.
They assured residents that the projects would be completed and that the full benefits of improved road infrastructure would be realized by 2027.
The delegation also inspected the housing project at Kpeve and the Agenda 111 District Hospital project at Golokwati, which has stalled.
The MPs noted the need for urgent intervention to bring the hospital project back on track.
In Agavedzi, the team assessed progress on Phase Two of the Sea Defence Project, a critical initiative aimed at protecting coastal communities from erosion and tidal waves.
The inspection tour concluded at the Keta Port, where discussions were held on work done so far and the port’s strategic importance to the economic development of the Volta Region.
Explaining the rationale for the exercise, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, recalled an earlier inspection involving the Council of State representative, the Regional House of Chiefs, traditional authorities, and religious leaders.
He emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring to safeguard public interest and accelerate development.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Gunu cautioned all contractors operating in the region to ensure quality workmanship and strict adherence to project timelines, in line with the President’s directives, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to delivering sustainable development for the people of the Volta Region.
