Two students have been arrested in connection with the assault of a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School (SHTS), an incident that was captured in a viral video and sparked widespread public outrage.

The arrests were made within 24 hours after a directive was issued to school authorities to produce those involved in the attack.

On Monday, February 23, at about 9:00 p.m., authorities of Swedru School of Business, led by the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Domestic Affairs, Mr. Michael Nii Kwaku Buxton, apprehended two students — Benedict Appiah, 18, and Bilal Mamud, 18 — and handed them over to the Agona Swedru Divisional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with investigations.

This follows CID Director-General, COP Lydia Donkor’s visit to Swedru School of Business where she issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the headmaster to produce students captured in viral videos assaulting an Obrachire SHS student during district athletics games.

The CID has commended the school authorities for their swift action in ensuring that the suspects were promptly handed over to the police.

Police say investigations are ongoing and have directed all other individuals connected to the assault to voluntarily report to assist with inquiries.

Authorities cautioned that anyone who fails to comply will be tracked down, arrested, and made to face the full rigours of the law.

Officials have reiterated that violence in educational institutions will not be tolerated, stressing that discipline, safety, and accountability in schools remain paramount.
