Mother Flogs 12-Year-Old Daughter for Selling Plantain Without Her Approval

A 12-year-old girl, identified as Vida Kwarteng, has reportedly been assaulted by her mother after selling freshly harvested plantain without her approval, an incident that has raised concern among relatives and residents in the community.

The incident occurred at Abrabra in the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipality on March 8.

According to the victim, the situation unfolded shortly after she and her mother, Diana Kwarteng, returned home from their farm.

Vida said she informed her mother of her intention to sell some of the plantain but did not receive any response.

She explained that she later proceeded to sell the plantain for GH₵30 and handed the money to her mother upon returning home.

However, she alleged that her mother became furious and subjected her to severe beating despite receiving the proceeds from the sale.

The incident, according to a report by 3news.com, has drawn the attention of family members who have expressed concern about the child’s safety and wellbeing.

Speaking on the matter, the girl’s uncle disclosed that the family has formally reported the case to the police and is hoping that the law will take its course to ensure justice for the child.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to make any arrest in connection with the alleged assault.

Residents in the area have also expressed concern over the incident, calling for stronger protection for children and urging parents and guardians to resolve issues involving minors without resorting to violence while investigations continue.
