Man, Girlfriend Found Dead in Room At Kade After Shooting Incident

Akyem Kade in the Eastern Region has been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the bodies of a young man and his girlfriend in a single-room apartment, in what is suspected to be a case of murder-suicide.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 2, 2026, at Kade in the Kwaebibrem Municipality.
The deceased have been identified as Atta Panyin, 22, popularly known as Koo Fante, and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Akosua Deborah.
According to Adom TV’s Eastern Regional Correspondent, Kwasi Azor, Panyin was found hanging from the ceiling of the room, while Akosua Deborah lay lifeless on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.
The grim discovery was made at about 6:00 a.m. after neighbours, alarmed by an unusual silence and suspicious circumstances around the room, forced their way inside.
Preliminary police findings point to a violent domestic incident, though investigations are ongoing to establish the exact sequence of events and circumstances leading to the deaths.
The tragedy has left a three-year-old child orphaned.
Akosua Deborah, a native of Akyem Takorase, was described by friends as a lively and caring young woman devoted to her child.
Kofi Asare, a close friend of Panyin who was among the first to see the scene, expressed shock and disbelief while speaking to the media.
“We never expected something like this. Seeing them both like that is a heavy blow to all of us in Kade,” he said.
Personnel from the Kade District Police Command swiftly secured the area, and the bodies were later conveyed to the local mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police say investigations are focusing on how Panyin came into possession of the firearm used in the shooting, as well as whether there had been any prior reports of domestic abuse or threats involving the couple.
The incident has reignited public concern over the rising number of domestic-related deaths in the country, with experts calling for stronger early intervention measures and improved access to mental health support to help prevent such tragedies.
