Gov’t to Deepen Partnership with Zoomlion To Drive Development

The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to advance environmental cleanliness, climate resilience, innovation and sustainable job creation across the country.

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed, made this known on Friday, December 12, when he served as Guest of Honour at the climax of the Jospong Annual Thanksgiving Service 2025, held at the company’s head office at Adjirigarnor in Accra.

“The government is ready to deepen its partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and, by extension, the subsidiaries of the Jospong Group, to drive a Ghana where cleanliness, resilience, innovation and job creation become an everyday reality and not a distant aspiration,” the minister stated.

According to him, the partnership is strategic to the attainment of key national objectives, including improved local governance, youth employment creation, environmental health protection, strengthened decentralisation and sustainable development.

He reiterated government’s resolve to further collaborate with the Jospong Group and Zoomlion, stressing the critical role of the private sector in national development, particularly in environmental sanitation and waste management.

Zoomlion’s Growth

Placing Zoomlion and the Jospong Group’s expansion in a broader historical context, Mr. Ibrahim described the company’s continental growth as a new chapter in Ghana’s global influence.

“The first wave was Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s liberation struggle across Africa. The second wave was when the Black Stars conquered African football. The third wave is Zoomlion’s expansion across Africa, which has become another historic symbol of Ghana’s global influence,” he said.

A Partnership with Proven Results

The minister described the existing public-private partnership as a model of success, citing outcomes from an official sanitation benchmarking visit to South Korea.

“During the visit, only two African countries impressed the Koreans — Ghana and Morocco,” he noted.

He attributed Ghana’s recognition to the development of 36 completed composting, recycling and waste treatment plants, the largest sanitation infrastructure in West Africa, established under Zoomlion’s partnership with government.

Mr. Ibrahim further disclosed that Zoomlion’s waste management infrastructure played a significant role in the United Nations designating Ghana as the Sanitation and Waste Management Hub for West Africa in 2025.

From Jamestown to a Continental Giant

Tracing the company’s journey, the minister noted that Zoomlion’s operations began in “a small office in Jamestown” and have since expanded into a conglomerate operating in over 14 sectors, with 78 subsidiaries across more than 24 African countries.

“Tell me which other Ghanaian company commands a presence in 25 African countries. None,” he remarked, describing the achievement as “historical, inspirational and a testament to Ghanaian excellence.”

He stressed that discussions on environmental sanitation, public health, waste management, the green economy and modern local governance would be incomplete without acknowledging the Jospong Group and Zoomlion’s contribution.

Jospong Chair Acknowledges Gov’t Support

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, acknowledged consistent government support as a major factor in the company’s growth, which he described as divinely guided.

In his welcome address, Dr. Agyepong attributed the Group’s transformation from a single printing press into a multinational industrial conglomerate to divine providence and national support.

“Thus far has the Lord helped us,” he said.

He disclosed that Zoomlion, the Group’s flagship environmental subsidiary, now operates 36 functional plants covering solid, liquid and medical waste treatment, positioning Ghana as a centre of industrial excellence on the African continent.

According to him, the Group’s footprint, which began with the Jospong Printing Press in Jamestown in 1995, now spans more than 25 African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, The Gambia and Gabon.

“Truly, this is the doing of the Lord, and it is marvellous in our eyes,” he stated.

Dr. Agyepong paid tribute to successive governments and leaders who supported the company’s growth, including the late President Jerry John Rawlings, the late President Prof. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama for their continued support.

Recalling an early encounter with President Kufuor, he said, “I was frightened.”

Dr. Agyepong concluded that the Group’s success was not merely the result of strategy, but a “manifestation of divine covenant, revelation and mystery,” describing the company’s journey as a national testimony of what is possible with vision and enablement.
