DVLA Registers Over 5,000 Excavators
…Tema New Office to Serve as Sole Centre for Excavator Registrations

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has registered more than 5,000 excavators into its system, following the commencement of a nationwide excavator registration exercise under the current management.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, disclosed this at the commissioning of the Authority’s newest facility, the Tema Port Ultra Centre at Community 1 on September 18.
According to Mr Kotey, the number of excavators registered within the period represents a significant milestone in the history of the DVLA.
“We have also registered more than 5,000 excavators into our system. Under us, we started registering excavators. It has never been in the history of DVLA that we have done more than 5,000 excavator registrations,” he said.
He explained that the newly commissioned Tema Port Ultra Centre would serve as the sole registration centre for excavators at the port, with the Authority moving the registration process from the Tema Port to the new facility.
Mr Kotey said the strategic location of the centre made it suitable for 24-hour operations, particularly because activities at the Tema Port have also moved to a 24-hour schedule.
He appealed to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, to support the Authority with additional security arrangements to enable it extend operations at the facility.
“We are doing extended service. Honourable Member of Parliament, if God touches your heart and you can help us with extra security, we can do this straightforward with 24-hour service,” he said.
The DVLA CEO said the Authority was working with the MP and a private investor to transition the centre into a full 24-hour operation.
He said the Tema Port Ultra Centre would provide the full range of DVLA services under one roof, making it easier and more convenient for the public and other stakeholders to access its services.
30th DVLA Office
The new Tema facility is the 30th office commissioned by the DVLA within the past 18 months, according to Mr Kotey.
He said the expansion formed part of the Authority’s efforts to bring its services closer to the public and establish a DVLA presence across the country.
Mr Kotey explained that while the previous administration left the Authority with 33 offices, the current management had added 30 new offices, with another 10 facilities ready for commissioning.
The offices awaiting commissioning are located at Twifo-Praso, Enchi, Asankragua (two), Jomoro, Kyebi, Sogakope, Kete-Krachi, Dambai and Ada in the Greater Accra Region.
He stressed that the expansion of the Authority’s network would not compromise service standards, saying every newly established office must deliver services to the same standard as existing DVLA facilities.
Mr Kotey expressed appreciation to the MP for Tema East, the private investor, the two Deputy Chief Executives, directors and members of management for their support in making the new facility possible.
