EOCO Secures Warrant to Arrest Manhyia South MP

…By Hook or Crook, After Botched Attempt

An Accra High Court has issued a warrant authorising the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, in connection with an ongoing investigation.

The court has also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.

The warrant follows an application by EOCO after its lawyers told the court that efforts to secure the legislator’s voluntary attendance had been exhausted.

EOCO further told the court that it feared documents relevant to its investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed, prompting the application for authority to arrest the MP and conduct the related search and seizure.

The latest development comes exactly a week after EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026, in an incident that resulted in a confrontation at the court premises.

EOCO subsequently explained that the attempted arrest formed part of lawful steps to secure the MP’s attendance in an ongoing investigation, following two invitations issued to him in February 2026.

MP Disputes EOCO’s Account

Mr Baffour Awuah has, however, disputed EOCO’s account, insisting that the investigation concerns SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, a client of his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.

According to him, after receiving EOCO’s February invitation, he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice.

He said a representative of the law firm subsequently appeared before EOCO investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026, and provided the information requested, including a formal written statement dated April 30.

Mr Baffour Awuah has therefore maintained that he himself was not the subject of the investigation, but that the matter related to his former firm’s representation of SIC Life Savings and Loans.

GH¢3.5m Investment

The case has brought renewed attention to financial dealings involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and Equity Savings and Loans.

Mr Baffour Awuah has said his former law firm was engaged by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover approximately GH¢3.5 million invested with Equity Savings and Loans.

He said the investment, together with accumulated interest, had risen to about GH¢14 million before a negotiated settlement was reached.

EOCO has not publicly disclosed the full details of its ongoing investigation.

The latest court order, however, gives the Office judicial authority to proceed with the arrest of the MP and the search and seizure of documents in connection with the investigation.
