A woman identified only as Sweety has allegedly inflicted multiple razor blade wounds on her husband, Martin, at Gbi-Avega in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack on a waiting motorcycle, leaving the victim soaked in blood.
The incident occurred on Friday, April 17, 2026, following a brief altercation between the couple.
Martin was initially rushed to the Ve-Kolenu Clinic, but was not attended to due to the severity of his injuries.
He was later transported by motorcycle to a hospital at Ve-Golokuati, where he received treatment and was subsequently discharged.
The couple are said to have separated about two weeks earlier after living together as husband and wife for four years.
Narrating his ordeal to a local freelance reporter, the victim said the incident occurred while he was escorting Sweety to their house to collect the remainder of her belongings after she had earlier left the matrimonial home for her parents’ residence.
“I was with my friends when she came from Ve-Kolenu, saying she had come to pick up her items, even though she had already packed all her belongings. She demanded the key, but I refused to hand it over and asked that we both go there together so I could open the door for her.
She took the lead to the house and was waiting for me. But when she saw me approaching, she walked back towards me, grabbed my arm and I struggled to free myself. Before I realised it, she pulled out a sharp blade and slashed me on the head and across my body before fleeing,” he said.
It remains unclear whether the victim has formally reported the matter to the police and whether the suspect has been arrested to face the law.
The incident once again highlights growing concerns over domestic violence in marriages in recent times.
