StarOil Posts Record Daily Sales Amid Pricing ‘War’ Competitors Left Crying

StarOil Ghana says it recorded its highest single-day fuel sales over the weekend, as its Chief Executive Officer, Kwame Tieku, defended the company’s low pricing strategy and took aim at competitors questioning its credibility.
In a Facebook post that has since generated discussion within the downstream petroleum sector, Mr Tieku said the company’s performance was driven by strong customer loyalty, particularly under its Starsavers initiative.
According to him, StarOil’s commitment to keeping fuel prices low dates back to 2022, when fuel prices surged sharply nationwide.
He recalled that at the time, the company deployed its then 162 fuel stations to cushion consumers from what he described as unbearable price increases.
“When in 2022 prices were racing upwards unbearably for Ghanaians, we were the ones who used our 162 stations then to keep prices as low as possible,” he stated, adding that some competitors instead aligned their prices with higher-priced international operators.
Mr Tieku questioned why StarOil’s pricing credibility is now being challenged, arguing that the brand’s history of consumer-focused pricing has earned it lasting public trust.
He disclosed that the company is on track to sell about 90 million litres of fuel by the end of the month, describing the recent sales figures as a clear indication that consumers continue to reward StarOil’s pricing approach.
“Starsavers are united more than ever before, and we had our highest daily sales on record so far this weekend,” he said, adding that “Ghanaians have not forgotten” the company’s role during difficult economic times.
The comments come amid heightened competition in the downstream petroleum market, where pricing strategies and consumer loyalty remain key drivers of market share.
